Six Years in Microsoft’s Inner Circle: Delivering More for Customers

Microsoft has named Node4 an Inner Circle member for AI Business Solutions for the sixth consecutive year, placing us among just three UK-centric partners to achieve the recognition.

It reflects our continued investment in our people and expertise, our close relationship with Microsoft and our focus on the technology shaping what comes next, helping us create more value for the customers we support.

Watch the video to find out what six years in Microsoft’s Inner Circle means for our customers.

CTO Corner:

Sometimes the right technology decision is to switch it off.

Would you back your IT director for taking a critical service offline if the attack they feared never happened?

Even if it disrupted customers? Even if it cost you money?

Your answer says quite a lot about how resilient your business really is.

On September 25th, secure file-transfer provider Kiteworks recommended a precautionary shutdown after receiving credible intelligence about a potential attack. It said it had no indication that its own or its customers’ systems had been compromised. The recommendation was lifted on 27 September. Kiteworks’ statement.

We don’t have enough public information to judge every aspect of that decision. But the situation exposes a problem that deserves more attention.

We have spent years teaching technology teams that downtime is failure. Contracts penalise it. Dashboards turn red. Boards demand explanations.

Then we expect those same teams to interrupt a service voluntarily when they believe continuing to operate could cause greater damage.

That takes more than a security tool. It takes a business prepared to support the decision.

The incentives are uncomfortable. The cost of stopping is immediate and visible. The damage prevented may never be measurable. Someone will ask whether the interruption was really necessary.

If we judge the decision purely by whether an attack subsequently happened, we teach people to wait for proof. By then, their options may be considerably worse.

I think this belongs on the board agenda, before the next incident forces it there.

Choose one service your business depends on. Imagine your security team recommends isolating it this afternoon.

Who can authorise that? How long can the business tolerate the interruption?

What will customers be told? What evidence will you require before reconnecting it?

If those answers depend on getting the right people into an emergency meeting, you have already built delay into your response.
This becomes more important as we connect more of the business and give software greater autonomy. An automated process can keep making changes while people are still debating whether to intervene. As AI agents gain access to operational systems, the ability to contain their actions needs to be part of the design.

I want us to be ambitious about that technology. But I would challenge any proposal that explains how an autonomous service starts working without explaining how we regain control of it.

The same challenge applies to recovery. A successful backup is useful evidence. A rehearsal showing that the business can resume work safely is much stronger.

At Node4, this is where our security, cloud, managed services and recovery capabilities need to work together. Our portfolio gives us the opportunity to help customers make these decisions with a clear understanding of the consequences and a tested route back. That is the standard we should hold ourselves to.

For customers, my challenge is simple: at your next leadership meeting, ask who has permission to stop a critical service to protect the business.

Then ask whether you would support that person if the threat passed without incident. If the honest answer is no, your resilience problem starts in the boardroom.

Take control of Business Central data changes early

nHanced Record Change

Product overview

nHanced Record Change helps Business Central teams achieve accurate, controlled, and auditable data management by capturing proposed data changes as requests that can be reviewed, finalised, or approved through nHanced Workflow integration before they are applied.

As data quality, compliance, and accountability become increasingly important, nHanced Record Change ensures updates are reviewed and approved before impacting business operations.

What it does

nHanced Record Change helps organisations manage Business Central data updates in a controlled and auditable way. Instead of making changes directly to live records, users create change requests that can be reviewed, approved, and applied only when the right people are satisfied.

Whether updating a single field, modifying hundreds of records, adding new records, or removing obsolete ones, teams gain greater visibility, accountability, and confidence that critical data changes are accurate before they take effect.

Where could it help?

  • Managing customer credit limits

For credit controllers and finance teams, proposed credit limit changes can be reviewed and approved before they're applied, helping reduce risk and maintain control.

  • Making changes at scale

Sales operations, customer services and business administrators can update dozens or hundreds of records through a single request, reducing manual effort and the risk of human error.

  • Controlling sensitive master data

For Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Compliance and Operations teams, changes to vendor, customer or item data can be restricted, reviewed and routed through approval workflows before they impact live data.

Know more. Get more.

  • Cool fact

Record Change supports Add, Change and Delete operations across individual and multiple records, so large-scale updates can be managed through one controlled process.

  • Top tip

For mass updates, use Set Fields to apply a value across selected records, then Remove Unchanged or Not Set Fields to keep requests clean and easy to review.

  • Keep in mind

Formal approvals require nHanced Workflow and nHanced Record Change Workflows to be installed and linked to your Record Change Types. This enables automated approval routing and optional auto-application once approved.

Is Your Data Ready for What’s Next?

At Node4, most of our customer relationships span years, not months. Over that time, we’ve seen how quickly priorities can change. A business focused on infrastructure today might be exploring AI tomorrow, while another looking to improve customer experience may discover that better data is the real starting point.

That’s why we’re thinking more about customer journeys; connecting the technology, data and expertise needed to solve a challenge, rather than treating every project in isolation.

And increasingly, those journeys start with data.

Whether the goal is AI, better reporting, operational efficiency or application modernisation, businesses need confidence in the data behind their decisions. Yet 72% don’t currently have trusted, governed data of the quality needed to support advanced AI and analytics.

For many, fragmented systems, inconsistent information and manual reporting have simply become things to work around. AI is making that harder to ignore.

We’ve seen the difference trusted data foundations can make through our work with The Clear Group, helping bring data together following a series of acquisitions to improve reporting, accelerate integration and create stronger foundations for future innovation.

That’s the thinking behind our Trusted Data journey: helping our customers to turn their data into insight, strengthen governance and build a foundation they can rely on as they adopt AI and analytics.

So, a question worth asking:

If an AI assistant answered your most important business question tomorrow, how confident would you be in the data behind the answer?

What Does Good Data Look Like?

Good AI starts with good data. Data Doctor helps you pinpoint what’s holding your data back, where to focus next and how to build a stronger foundation for AI, analytics and better business decisions.

Node4 achieves Microsoft 365 Copilot Specialisation

Node4 has successfully achieved the Microsoft 365 Copilot Specialisation, recognising our capabilities across Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI-powered agents, advisory, deployment and adoption services.

For customers exploring how Copilot and AI agents could support their organisation, the specialisation provides additional confidence that Node4’s technical capabilities, delivery expertise and customer success have been independently assessed and validated by Microsoft.

It means we can support organisations across the full journey, from identifying high-value use cases and assessing business value, through to deployment, governance, security, optimisation and user adoption.

Why this matters: As AI adoption accelerates, having the right expertise around implementation, data protection, governance and responsible use is just as important as the technology itself. Working with a specialised partner can help organisations move from experimentation towards practical, measurable business value.

There is also a funding consideration. From January 2027, the Microsoft 365 Copilot Specialisation will become a requirement for Copilot funding. For organisations exploring Copilot, this means it's worth understanding what funding support may be available as they plan their next steps.

GPT-6 Astra and Workplace AI

As AI becomes more capable, the conversation can quickly become a race between models. For business leaders, the more important question is whether businesses can redesign work, governance and accountability quickly enough to turn that capability into value.

OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, introduced in September 2026, expands the scope of work AI can attempt. Rather than simply answering questions or generating content, it can reason through longer, more complex “work loops”, use software tools, adapt its approach and produce completed outputs for review. Microsoft has made Astra available through Microsoft Foundry and is integrating it into parts of its AI ecosystem.

That shift matters because AI is moving further into business processes. The focus is increasingly on identifying work that can be safely delegated, supervised, measured and governed - not simply improving individual prompts.

But a more capable model does not automatically create business value. Effective AI workflows also need trusted data, approved information sources, appropriate permissions, orchestration, monitoring and review. The model is one part of a much wider operating environment.

There is also a reason to be measured about productivity claims. Early evaluations show improvements in areas such as reasoning, coding, workflow execution and computer use, but the current evidence is still largely based on benchmarks, early adopters and selected case studies. Organisations should be careful about turning these results into broad productivity assumptions.

Governance becomes increasingly important as AI moves closer to taking action. A poor response might once have meant a weak summary; an AI system interacting with business applications could potentially trigger an incorrect transaction, configuration change or communication. Clear ownership, approval points, monitoring and audit requirements therefore need to be established before wider deployment.

For knowledge workers, this could mean less time spent gathering information, creating first drafts or completing repetitive process steps, and more time spent validating outcomes, managing exceptions and applying judgement.

For business leaders, the practical question is increasingly: what work should be delegated, what authority should AI have, and where must accountability remain human?

GPT-6 Astra raises the ceiling on what AI can attempt. Sustained business value will depend on how effectively organisations redesign workflows around it, manage risk, govern data and measure the outcomes.
