Our customer is one of the country’s leading providers of integrated road and rail freight logistics. Before engaging with Node4, the company’s cybersecurity services were delivered by its previous MSP, but, as the company’s IT Director notes, the evolving threat landscape requires more thought, more strategy, and more specialist knowledge. “The cyber threat landscape continues to evolve, and we can’t stand still. As such, it was clear to us that cybersecurity services could no longer be simply bolted on to a standard MSP offering.”
He continues: “We looked at some overseas solutions, but we wanted to stay within UK boundaries. Around that time, we met some of the Node4 team at an industry event. We knew from the outset that they were people we could do business with. That was the case from day one, and it remains true today.”
Following a thorough cybersecurity review, the organisation chose Node4’s Threat Detect managed security service, which incorporates advanced Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Security Operations Centre (SOC) capabilities. Their IT Director explains: “Node4’s SOC collects and examines logs from across our IT estate in real-time, applying hundreds of analytical rules to flag anomalies. When potential threats arise, Node4’s analysts triage alerts and work collaboratively with our team to assess and respond to risks.”

He notes that Threat Detect utilises data from multiple sources to help identify potential cyber threats before they escalate.
It covers endpoints, cloud environments, and network traffic. We also have access to a centralised dashboard that provides a clear view of incidents, trends and outcomes. It’s in a different league from the basic endpoint monitoring offered by our previous provider.

The move to a 24/7, UK-based SOC gives the organisation peace of mind. “Potential threats are now monitored around the clock. That’s difficult, costly and impractical to replicate ourselves. And I’m guessing that’s the same for most companies of our size,” the IT director comments.
“Yet continuous monitoring is essential,” he continues. “If I were a threat actor, I wouldn’t attack an organisation during normal office hours. But with Node4 on the case, I know that if something looks suspicious, even in the small hours of the morning, it’s being tracked and, if necessary, dealt with and neutralised.”
Node4 spends a significant amount of time each day analysing logs and patterns. “It’s one of the ways that we identify potential threats and determine how to address them,” the IT Director explains. “It means faster, more accurate responses and fewer distractions for our own team. The combination of automated detection and expert human analysis ensures that genuine threats are quickly prioritised, and false positives are reduced.”
He continues: “Node4’s SOC team also carries out proactive threat hunting using intelligence feeds and correlation rules. This detects emerging risks that conventional alerts can often miss.”
As part of the Threat Detect service, Node4 also provides detailed monthly and quarterly reporting that translates technical threat data into business-level insights. This visibility enables the team to brief the board and, where appropriate, track measurable improvements in security posture and responsiveness.
“For me, it’s about confidence,” the IT Director notes. “When my board asks about cybersecurity, I can answer with certainty. I know what’s happening, and I know we’ve got experts constantly monitoring our IT infrastructure and advising on our options.”
Threat Detect is engineered to evolve. Node4’s analysts regularly review detection rules and correlation logic, fine-tuning them based on observed patterns and newly discovered vulnerabilities.
“The solution brings with it a lot of comfort, especially at a time when supply chain attacks seem to be on the increase,” he explains. “No one would ever say they are 100% protected from a cyber-attack, but I like to think we have enough coverage to help us rest easy at night and that, should anything happen, we’ll be notified promptly and can work to address it. It’s a game of cat-and-mouse between the threat actors and us. There’s always more to be done, a new threat to shut down.”
While the organisation’s IT Director is obviously realistic about the ever-changing nature of cyber threats, he remains reassured by Node4’s proactive stance and evolving roadmap. This includes new Threat Detect features such as enhanced automation, more in-depth analytics, and integration with broader IT operations.
“The fact that we renewed for another three years without putting a tender out to market speaks volumes,” he confides. “It’s reassuring to know how the service will evolve; how it will continue to monitor and identify emerging threats. It’s one of the reasons that we’re comfortable with the solution and pleased with how it’s progressing.”
“It’s a true partnership,” he concludes.
That’s important because cybersecurity isn’t a single-person responsibility. Or at least, it shouldn’t be. In our organisation, it’s shared between Node4’s analysts and our own very knowledgeable team. Cybersecurity defence requires a constant flow of communication between our two organisations, with intelligent, timely and insightful engagement that enables us to respond to actual and potential threats. It isn’t something we can do on our own, and it can’t simply be outsourced to Node4.
