SIPlink: don't get left behind

SIPlink

What is it?

Quite simply, SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) trunking allows businesses to make and receive phone calls over an IP connection. SIPlink is Node4's SIP service.

For those with a more technical mind... Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a transport independent signalling protocol. It sets up a logical channel between 2 endpoints and this is termed a SIP Trunk. SIP Trunks enable organisations to create a single, IP connection between themselves and their telephone service provider, giving them the ability to make and receive telephone calls and other IP services such as video calls, video conferencing and presence information. You can get more details by taking a look at the SIPlink datasheet (download below).

There are 2 different ways that you can connect with SIPlink, either:

  • Connect using QoS enabled broadband to the existing PBX on each customer site
  • Or, if you are a hosted telephony provider we can provide an interconnect

What do I need?

Firstly, check that your existing PBX is SIP enabled and if it is then we can connect your PBX to a router which in turn connects to the broadband link.

If your PBX is not compatible then don't worry! You may be able to upgrade it or Node4 can supply some equipment that will enable any PBX with our SIP service.

You will also need a broadband connection, either your own or preferably using a Node4 QoS enabled connection that will guarantee voice quality. We can also provide Leased lines and Ethernet products as an alternative.

What costs are involved?

With your SIP enabled PBX and broadband in place, then the cost will simply be the rental of your SIP channels on a monthly basis.

For example: If you currently have 5 ISDN lines that means you can support 5 concurrent calls so you will need to rent 5 SIP Channels which is typically £6 per month per channel.

Call rates will be allocated depending on your predicted call spend; a typical Node4 rate is 1p/minute on local and national calls, and 9.5p/minute for mobiles.

Can I keep my existing numbers?

Yes, in most cases we are able to port your numbers; we currently have agreements in most areas with the following providers: BT, Virgin Media, Telewest, NTL, Energis, Cable & Wireless, Thus, Your Communications and Redstone

Can I have new numbers?

Yes, we can provide numbers from 240 UK towns and cities to provide you with presence almost anywhere in the country. You don't need to be based in the area that you want a number for either.

How do I order?

We feel it is important that your service works! So we will firstly set up a test account to ensure that everything runs smoothly before the solution is installed throughout. We have already tested with the majority of PBX manufacturers so this should be a simple process.

All you need to do in order to set up your test account is fill in this downloadable questionnaire and send it to sip@node4.co.uk

We aim to complete testing within 48 hours and once this is complete is complete the service can easily be rolled out across your organisation.

Should you need any more information on SIPlink or if you would like to talk through your test account application with an Account Manager please call us on 0845 123 2222 or email sip@node4.co.uk
